Welcome

Somewhere along the Thailand border, we arrived, lived and anguished in one of those refugees camps...We existed among many thousands other Cambodian refugees, in a Vietnamese refugee camp among other huge refugee camps, like a tiny island in the vast archipelago, a floating debris in a sea of inhumanity. There we lived, prayed, and survived probably one of the harshest time in our lives.

These are only the pictures in our possession, and our stories. If you stumble across this blog site, please post any pictures, stories for our children to understand how their parents escaped, have lived, and are building a life as they have today....

Transit Camps

The refugees at the border camps eventually got interviewed, accepted, and settled in a third country: Australia, Denmark, Malaysia, French, Sweden, and many others. Many got accepted by the US. All the refugees who were accepted for resettlement were transported to Panatnikhom transit camp for a month or so to complete the paper work, and to be screened for health before flying to the final destinations.

For those who went to the US, they had to go to either Bataan or Galang to study English and to learn about the life in America

Below are the links to the stories and pictures of the camps that had become part of our journey to freedom. Gaylord Barr captured those moments at Pulau Galang and Bataan when he worked at the camps as an English teacher. Trinh Huy Chuong, a refugee from border camp, had the luxury of a camera to capture the pictures at Panatnikhom during the short time he was there.

Mgr. Pierre Gaudette uống nước thốt nôt...

Monsignor Pierre Gaudette...nguyên là Giáo sư Thần Học tại Trường Đại Học Laval, Québec... Trước khi thở thành Đức Ông, Cha Pierre Gaudette là người từng bảo trợ rất nhiều gia ̣̣đình , anh chị em từ Trại Tị Nạn Đường Bộ, nhất là anh chị em Khmer Krom. Cha được mô tả là một người khoan hậu , vui vẻ và hòa mình...Ngài từng về Việt Nam, Cambodia để thăm các gia đình của những người mà Ngài đã bão lãnh sang Québec, Canada....Dưới đây là một vài tấm hình cho thấy sự hòa mình và lòng khoan dung của Ngài....Ngài rất vui mừng và hân hạnh được trở về Montréal để gặp lại con cháu của mình trong ngày hội ngộ gia đình trại tị nạn đường bộ vào thứ \bảy 22 tháng sáu sắp tới:

Làn sóng di tản trước ngày 30 tháng tư đen 1975 và những cuộc vượt biên tìm Tự Do sau đó của dân tộc Việt Nam...được thế giới xem như cuộc di dân ngọan mục nhất trong lịch sử loài người.
Vì thông thường, con người sinh ra với bẩm sinh mưu tồn cho mình, họ tìm đủ mọi cách để tồn tại, trong đó di dân là một bản năng sinh tồn vì thiên tai, thay đổi khí hậu, môi trường, địa lý...v.v.. Tuy nhiên sự di dân của dân Việt không nằm trong một lý do nêu trên, họ không mưu cầu cái sống, họ chỉ̉ đơn giàn ̣đi tìm Tự do, một thức ăn, khi không thiếu thì không ai biết quý, khi mất rồi....sống thiếu Tự do ví như xác không hồn....
Ra đi...bằng mọi phương tiện sẵn có...
Ra đi bằng ghe, bằng thuyền...gọi là Vượt biển...là thuyền nhân...là Boat people...
Ra đi trong vòng trật tự, hay bán trật tự...gọi là ODP <Orderly Departure Program>....bằng máy bay..bảo lãnh ..
Ra đi ... sau những ngày lao tù ở các trại học tập cải tạo..nhờ vào chương trình HO...

Rồi có người, cũng ra đi, bằng bảng năng di động của mình, đôi chân Việt nhỏ bé, băng qua các nước láng giềng, xuyên qua những mãi mìn của "killing field"...họ đã chết vì mìn vì chông, vì tù đày, ngược đãi, bệnh tật, ... HỌ LÀ AI.....

Bác Huỳnh Cao Phẩm, nguyên là đệ nhị trại trưởng trại tị nạn đường bộ Việt Nam , tức là người hậu nhiệm sau khi Bác Lâm Nê lên đường định cư.

Bác Phẩm có gởi về một cuốn album hình bao gồm trên 30 tấm hình với vài dòng phụ chú, cùng chia sẽ với bà con . Xin đăng nguyên bản cuốn album.
